Route 23's Diner. Hot Plates, Real People.

Classic American comfort food served fresh daily in Wantage, NJ, where regulars have been filling booths since 1982.

About Us

The griddle at Sussex Queen Diner has been running since 1982, turning out golden hash browns and fluffy three-egg omelets for Route 23 travelers who know exactly where to stop. Generations of Sussex County families have slid into these booths, ordered the Irish skillet, and left with full plates and change to spare. That kind of staying power does not come from luck.

The staff here are the real story. Servers who remember your usual order, a kitchen crew that takes pride in getting the basics right, and a dining room that feels like someone's grandmother actually thought about your comfort. Regulars bring their whole crew for large gatherings and count on the kitchen to deliver. The mozzarella sticks alone have their own fan base.

This is a working diner on a working highway, and it earns its place on that road every single morning. The coffee is hot, the portions are honest, and the welcome is genuine every time you walk through the door.

What We Offer

Sussex Queen Diner runs the full American diner playbook, and runs it well. Breakfast anchors the menu with thick omelets built to order, skillets loaded with your choice of mix-ins, pancakes, French toast, and egg plates that come out hot and fast. The Irish skillet draws repeat visits on its own.

Lunch and dinner stretch into diner classics: burgers, sandwiches, soups, and a rotating selection of comfort plates that hit harder than the price tag suggests. The nachos and chili bring their own crowd, and the appetizer list, especially those mozzarella sticks, makes a strong case for skipping straight to starters. Large groups and local events are welcome, and the kitchen is built to handle the volume.

Dine in at the counter or in a booth, or call ahead for your order. The menu covers enough ground that everyone at the table finds something worth coming back for.

"Food was as expected quality in a diner, the nachos and chili were decently good, but the nachos were disorganised and the cheese should have been more melted. The ingredients didnt really go that well togethet but the chili was good. Everything else met expectations but i dont recommend here for dinner, only for a quick and cheap breakfast and lunch"

"I really hate leaving negative reviews but this experience honestly left me feeling upset and discouraged. I’m currently in my first trimester of pregnancy and have been extremely sick, so I tried to order a simple chicken noodle soup through Uber Eats from this diner. Before placing the order, I called just to politely ask if the soup could be made plain because my stomach has been so sensitive. Before I could even finish my sentence, the woman who answered cut me off and hung up on me. I called back, still trying to be polite, and explained that I wasn’t done speaking. Instead of helping, she told me I should order pickup so I “wouldn’t waste any more of her time” because they were busy. I explained that I’m staying at a resort and can’t pick up the order, but she continued to be incredibly rude and dismissive. When you’re already feeling awful and just trying to get something small you can keep down, being treated like that is really disheartening. All I was asking for was basic kindness and customer service, and instead I was made to feel like an inconvenience. No customer deserves to be spoken to that way."
